By Bike | Week 2 (Miles 304 – 363)

I’ve been back at work 10 days now and I’ve managed to ride to work 8 of those 10 days. It was a tough week at work – 10 plus hours a day, a rude awakening for a guy who’s been on leave for 12 weeks. At the end of the day on Wednesday I was tired and the ride home seemed like a daunting task. It turned out to be just the thing I needed.

Thursday was, more or less, the same story: a long day of interviews and a looming 8 mile ride home. And, by Friday, I realized that it didn’t really matter how quickly I got home so, exhausted and fighting off the first stages of a cold, I spun my way home thankful I wasn’t in a car the entire time.

The cold and last week’s mystery knee injury have led me stumble on what is likely to be my biggest obstacle in this transition: my body. I suspect that the daily rides will help keep me healthy as long as I can keep from injuring myself and I still have a car that can shuttle me to and from work if needed. But, even as I cough into my arm, I keep thinking about things I can do to make sure I’ll be able to ride in the morning.
